Fish

My chosen fish was the Spotted Sea Trout, which I found surprisingly hard to characterise in the initial stages. I used both my cute and darker styles when sketching, and found the latter to look the best.
During a tutorial it was suggested that I take some of these rough sketches and work into them digitally.
However the original sketch lines were hard to get rid of, so i decided to start from scratch.
My 2 main influences for this workshop were Richey Beckett and Alphonse Mucha.
The above patterns in The Art Nouveau Style Book of Alphonse Mucha made me realise that I could repeat one image rather than draw several. I also liked how it had parts of scenery around the fish.
The smokes, lines and circles in the above picture influenced what I put around my fish, and I used a similar colour palette of muted grey and blue. Below is the full image digitally coloured.
Below are several different examples of my pattern.

Whilst creating the pattern I forgot to make one of the fish different in some way.

The feedback i received for this piece wasn't as positive as i would have hoped. However if I were to take this piece further I would turn it into a piece of album artwork, as this is what the whole drawing is influenced by (Beckett).

I found myself once again toning down the darkness of my drawing, which I feel helped develop a strong character.

Although my main influences are mentioned above, here are some other repeat patterns I looked at whilst creating my work.
