One more thing...

As well as the book I drew the picture of the telivision trying to reach his remote, whilst the phone and ipod laugh on. It's not quite finished yet, and it needs a fair bit of changing before it will produce a good flock/foil print in 2 weeks time.

And here are my low-fi photocopy prints of my raven skull drawing. These were the best ones, whilst the others were a bit of a shambles.

Altered Book Finished.

Finished my altered book. Differs in quality from page to page, but overall I'm happy with it. Has a very dark theme throughout, as noted by one of my lecturers! The book was so old and fell apart easily, as well as the ink seeping through the pages, so a lot of pages had to be removed or glued together.
I enjoyed using a scalpel to cut out letters on the pages, my favourite spread is probably the "Hook on Smile" one.
However, I'm most proud of the cover, it has a nice homemade feel to it. Am thinking of drawing up design again and producing some screen prints from it.

DUST!

Made a dust cover today for our altered books. we had to base it on a favorite double page spread inside. So of course i chose the most repetitive and time consuming. I'm very happy with it though, it has a great feel to it when it's in your hand.
Drawn completely with fine liners.

Main figure is different paper stuck behind with the mouth cut out.

Top Trumps

Reliving the childhood. I thought university was supposed to be hard?
Here is a top trump card for the Illustrator Stephan Doitschinoff.
(You're probably going to see a lot of his work, i'm slightly obsessed.)
Unfortunately I had to score him low for some of the categories, but he's got a nice big juicy 10 for style.

First things first...

My first post for my PDP.
Above is a piece created during my Pre-Degree course. I created lots of imagery based on animals. My style was influenced by contour lines and maps in general. This particular piece is A2 in size and created using fineliner pens of various sizes. It took around 5 hours to complete. The tongue alone took half an hour!
What skills did i arrive with?
I feel there are many skills which i further need to develop, such as using colour in a professional manner. However I feel I have a talent for being able to get absorbed in large pieces of detailed work. I love to get sucked in to a piece of artwork, escape into my mind for a bit whilst being able to create something people wonder about. I use fineliners a lot, and work in mostly black and white. I love using negative space and colouring large parts of my work in black. I have a strong passion for screen printing, especially onto clothing with, something i explored in the summer with a friend. Named Devils Punch Bowl clothing, (named after the place we came up with the idea,) we took our tee shirts to various street fairs and also listing them on eBay. To the left is a picture of the mammoth design on a white t-shirt.

Why did I choose Illustration?
I have always chosen the art path whenever the option tto choose what I study has been available. I studied Textiles and Graphic Design at A level, but realised I wanted to study Illustration on my Pre-Degree after a project entitled "Splintered Stories". In this project I drew Rapunzels tower in an industrial, cluttered metropolis set in the future. I realised I had the ability to create worlds, and get my imagination onto page so others could see what was going through my mind. During the summer, after accepting my place at Plymouth College of Art, I also took a big interest in writing short stories and poetry. There was a period where I thought perhaps i should have studied English, but like my passion for film photography, I realised this was best kept as a hobby.

What are inspires you most?
I am still fascinated with screen printing onto t-shirts , something i will continue to experiment with. I also would like to explore with creating murals and street art (legally of course!) largely influenced by the work of Stephan Doitschinoff, pictured above.

And there you have it, my first post.
